Alex Hera is a writer and film director with a deep love for immersive storytelling. At a young age, Alex was exposed to weird independent horror projects on the internet, and they were never the same.
Since 2018, Alex has been focused on telling found footage horror stories, crafting grounded human dramas, and documenting online art communities, with an emphasis on highlighting underrepresented stories & communities.
From 2020 to 2021, Alex directedWalker Creek, a multimedia web project (Alternate Reality Game) which they also wrote, developed, and ran for an audience of over 100 active players. It consisted of 100 webisodes, 7 websites, and numerous interactive elements. After its completion, they directed Making an ARG: Walker Creek, a feature documentary about its development.
In 2022, Alex directed The History of Analog Horror, a feature length documentary which explored the rise of the independent art movement 'analog horror' through extensive research and interviews. The film garnered over 2 million views online.
From 2023 to 2024, they wrote and directed Slenderverse: A Documentary Film Series - a three episode docuseries which chronicled the untold story of the viral icon Slender Man through interviews with 19 internet horror legends, extensive cinematic reenactments, and exclusive archival content. Each film in the series was accompanied by a live episode of the Out of Game aftershow which they co-hosted. In 2025, they wrote and directedWhat I Remember, a found footage drama/mystery feature film. It premiered at the Unnamed Footage Festival, where it won the Founders Award. They were also one of the organizers of Slender for Gender 2025, a charity event which raised over $8,000 for the transgender community.
